Review of Girls Trip (2017)
Director: Malcolm D. Lee
Starring: Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Mike Colter
Genre: Comedy
Duration: 2hours 2minutes.
The storyline:
This is about four girls, that have been friends for a very long time. As you can imagine the bond is very strong. However, like we can all agree on. It can get hard to stay in touch with friends from our childhood. The film shows this, by expressing that when we grow up, we have work to do and some have children that they now have to look after. It becomes very hard for the girls to stay in touch with one another. This then causes some tensions also because it is hard to believe, that this would ever happen. However, with the hope of reconnecting on old stories and catching up, the girls take a trip to New Orleans for an annual essence festival. This rekindles all lost sisterhood for the girls. Including the party scene, the drinking scene and romance. This get away, is to show that although, grown up there is no reason why they can't have fun or stay in touch.
The girls, reunited. |
My opinion:
I honestly had so much fun watching this film, when you thought all was done. It definitely was not. Although assumed to be a chick flick. It certainly wasn't. This can be enjoyed by any gender. The film had me laughing at all times, apart from when i was then emotionally connected to the power moments of when the ladies are doing all they can to protect one another. There are many moments where you'll be laughing. There is such a dynamic relationship that is seen between the girls and there is at least one character in the whole film that you'll see yourself in. My personal favourite actress in the whole entire film, was to be of course Tiffany Haddish. Absolutely hilarious in every way. Could not keep my eyes of her and always was waiting for her comeback. The characters name that was played was called Dina. The personality of Dina was fearless. Did not give one damn about any opinion and would do anything to protect the people she loves. And I, therefore will always love her.
I certainly recommend this film without a doubt. When I saw it advertised, I knew I had to see it. I don't regret it one bit.
