Hit That Film!

Sound that is used effectively in the first scene film The Purge (2013) 

The purge has a lot of dark moments where there are elements of danger and mystery. During the first scene of the film, we visually see people being violent and aggressive in public. This alone would create great tension without having anything added. However the non-diegetic sounds that are used help to fully express what is happening in the scene. The music is very daunting and has no elements of happiness. By using such daunting music in the background it has created a bigger picture for the audience as we know that we are seeing is not normal. The music also helps to suggest what emotions we should be feeling; the most seems quite sad and then influences us as an audience. We are influenced into feeling sympathy for the people that are being violent. This is due to the non-diegetic music and always shows an impressive way of creating meaning without using direct speech with protagonists. The post production that was added for this scene has made the story much more effective, this is because there would be no connection to the video if this music was not added. This film is hugely recommended to watch as the sound that is used in this film is used very effectively.
